WDMS Morning News Script

Mrs. Gibson:      Good Morning Dundalk Middle School, this is your announcements team bringing you your morning announcements on WDMS news. We’ll be providing announcements every Tuesday and Thursday.

Mrs. Gibson:      Today is Thursday, May 7, 2020.  Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and the DMS pledge.

Mrs. Gibson: Please be seated.

Mrs. Gibson: Let’s get a check on the weather. It will be mostly sunny today with a high of 65 degrees. The next four days will bring us a mix of weather. Everything from rain to wind to sun. The highs will range from 51 degrees to 64 degrees.

Now for the sports report – Don Shula was an American professional football player and coach. He played for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Colts, and Washington Redskins. He holds the record for being the winningest coach in NFL history. He was even the coach for the Baltimore Colts and led them to the 1968 NFL Championship. He was best known for being the longtime coach of the Miami Dolphins that included a perfect season in 1972. Sadly, he died this past Monday on May 4th.

Mrs. Gibson: Today we are wearing green in support of Mental Health Matters Awareness Week, which is May 3rd - 9th in Maryland. Mental health refers to a person’s overall behavioral, social, emotional and psychological well-being. Mental health impacts how we think, feel, and act, including how a child feels about himself/herself, relates to other children and adults, and handles change, stress and other life situations. One in five children experience a mental, emotional or behavioral health problem before age 18. These problems affect children of all demographic groups, regardless of education, income, race or culture. Hopefully, this week you have been learning things to help yourself and others feel better when you are sad, worried, angry, or scared. To learn more about the signs and symptoms of mental health problems contact your school counselor, your pediatrician, or go to www.ChildrensMentalHealthMatters.org.

Ms. Rosencrans: We wish Dini Murad and Kaliyah Reed happy birthday today.

Ms. Rosencrans: Let’s shake it up with some jokes. Why did the scarecrow win an award?....He was outstanding in his field. What do lawyers wear to court?....a lawsuit Did you guess either one of them correctly?

Meah: (Words of Wisdom) Good morning, Dundalk Middle School. This is (name of narrator) with a few words of wisdom. William Blake, an English poet, painter, and master engraver, has engraved these words into the character of many: As a man is, so he sees. He’s talking about perception – how a person views the world. The word perception comes from the Latin percipere, which means to grab hold of. So the question of the day is: How do you grab hold of life? Do you hold the negative or the positive? Do you see the glass as half full or half empty? Today, watch those negative thoughts. Grab hold of the positive in each situation and see how your perception can empower you.  With something to think about, this is (name of narrator). Make it a great day . . . or not. The choice is yours.

Meah: We hope we are bringing a smile to your face. If not try this sign that the Pittsburgh Magazine published recently. See you again on Tuesday.
